Homemade Pan Release

I am so tired of fighting with my pans trying to get my baked goods unstuck.  I don't use the store bought sprays for a couple reasons.  Who knows what is in them, and the packaging is not good for the enviroment.  With the goals of self-sufficiency, simplicity, and convince in mind, I set to work finding a way to fix my stuck on problem.  I found several ideas online, and came up with a recipe that works very well for me.

1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup shortening (I used lard)
1/4 cup oil (I used coconut oil)

Mix very well and store in a covered plastic container.  You can store at room temperature.  To apply, use your fingers, paper towel, or pastry brush.  One of my favorite things about this mix, it that it doesn't leave a sticky, hard to clean residue that the store bought sprays leave.
Notice in the picture above the residue stuck to the pan from prior uses when I used a spray release.  Despite scrubbing, it is stuck.  Is that something you would want to ingest?

  3. I gave up the spray a long time ago. I think their is propellant in those casn then their is oil! :-)I use paper cups instead, but wonder if it si a splurge. :-) Maybe I should do a cost copmarison between that and coconut oil. Maybe that would justfiy my prefernce. :-) However, I will keep this in mind. I don't use lard or "commercial shortening". But it seems like I could just sub it with more coconut oil in place of the shortening- don't you think???
