The Ever Useful Pallet

I love pallets, which is a good thing because Nathan has access to lots of them.  Of course with lots of pallets, must come lots of ideas to use them.  Here are some of the ways we have found uses for pallets around our house.

Pallets in the garden.  Someday I plan to nail small planters to these pallets or allow something to vine up them.  The pallet on the ground is filled with soil and compost waiting for me to plant lettuce.

We needed a temporary roost in the chicken house and my hubby came up with this idea.  He pulled out a couple boards and sanded down the edges.  The girls seem to like it and I like that I can move it around if I want.  I think it will become our permanent roost, although we will need a second one.

Here is my favorite pallet use so far.  We decided that a walk-through gate would be more convenient than one you have to open.  While he was putting up some new fence, hubby built this too.  Wide enough for us to pass through, but the turn is too sharp for calves to slip through (in theory anyways).

I just love pallets, don't you?

  3. I built my chicken coop out of pallets and a farmer friend calls it the Hen Hilton because it turned out so tight and predator proof. I'm building a bunny habitat out of them next and a compost surround. We found a place to get them from free.
