Preparing the Pasture

A while back we purchased a plot master.  It's a handy piece of equipment, that tills, plants and levels all-in-one.  The best part is that it can be pulled with a 4-wheeler if you want.  We used our tractor and that works great too.  After finally deciding how we wanted to proceed with our pasture, this seemed like the best tool for the job.

Originally we were going to cut and try a no-till method.  This just wasn't feasible.  The ground was too hard and we were worried about rocks.  Nathan made several passes with the plot-master, but the hard ground was making it slow going.

Then came the rain.  Over the course of 3 days we got almost 5 inches.  It looked like Spring again!  Nathan took the ol' plot-master for another spin and ....ta-da!

We will let it sit over winter and allow the grass to decompose.  In the spring the plan is to rake it again and planted.  Hopefully next spring will be as wet as last spring.

  1. Oh! that looks great.
Letting it sit for the winter-- is a good idea! Hope it makes all your work worth while. I'm glad to see you post-- I need to get caught up here with you. I think I've missed some posts.
I like the header up top.!
