I could go on and on about why I love my chickens. They gives eggs, they control bugs, they are fun to watch run around the barnyard. My favorite thing...
This stuff is about two years old. I use a homemade sifter to keep out feathers and rocks.
I have a rotation that works well for me. Each season has a certain spot for dumping what I clean out of the coop. Below is from cleaning out the coop today. Above you can see where I am digging for this Spring. I didn't take any from this spot last year, so it has really built up. Once I'm done digging in the chicken run I'll rake it over so it's even and looks nice.
On my to-do list for this year is expanding the run. Will that get done? Realistically ... no. We have a thousand other things that are more important.
These girls (and guy) are free range for most of the year so a small run isn't the end of the world. Note the clean coop, I'm going to sleep good tonight. :)
